Penn State Altoona celebrated a historic program in Blair County, with the college officially commemorating an agreement with the Railroader’s Memorial Museum in Altoona that will enhance their rail transportation engineering bachelor’s program.

Officials said the program is the only one of its kind in the entire nation, and that 100% of students in the program were able to get jobs in the industry within a month of graduating.

Ron Darbeau, Penn State Altoona Chancellor and Dean, said, “Penn State Altoona is looking to expand the RTE program, we’re trying to make this a destination spot of any rail enthusiasts, to be a great place to bring in K-12 students, and to move more folks into the rail industry which remains the backbone of the transportation industry in the country.”

The museum now houses a Penn State themed locomotive that students and members of the public will have the chance to explore.
